Benefits & Services Offered by Hongkong PolyU1) Basic PrinciplesThe benefits and services listed below will only be extended to registered and valid members of PolyU Overseas Association (both ex-staff and graduate) during their temporary visit/ stay in Hong Kong, for a specified period of not more than four weeks. To enjoy these benefits and services, members are required to present their valid membership cards for verification purpose. For members who return to Hong Kong for permanent stay, no such benefits could be offered. However, for the graduate members, they will be advised to join the departmental alumni associations under the Federation of PolyU Alumni Associations, through which the graduate members could also apply for the use of these facilities. 2) Library and Sports Facilities2.1 Library Facilities Members could apply for a “Temporary Pass” from the Library’s Circulation Counter, which allows members’ access to the Pao Yue Kong Library on PolyU campus during a specified period of not more than four weeks. The holder of the temporary pass can enjoy all the facilities inside the Library, but will NOT be offered any borrowing privileges. 2.2 Sports Facilities Members could apply for the “Sports Facilities User Card” issued by the Physical Education Section of the Student Affairs Office (SAO) and enjoy the sports facilities during a specified period of not more than four weeks. The holder of the user card could then book the various sports facilities according to the normal booking procedures, upon payment of the booking charges of individual sports facility (physical fitness room is excluded since users need to attend advance training provided by SAO). The user will not be able to bring in accompanying guests to the sports facilities. 2.3 Application Procedures The member should bring along his/her association’s membership card to PolyU’s Alumni Affairs & Development Office, located at Room M1504, 15/F Li Ka Shing Tower, PolyU Campus, to obtain a “Certification Letter” after the membership status is verified. The Certification Letter will state the period during which the member could enjoy the PolyU facilities. The member could then present the “Certification Letter” and 1 pieces of photo to the Circulation Counter of the Library to apply for the “Temporary Pass” or/ and SAO’s Physical Education Section at Shaw Sports Complex to apply for "Sports Facilities User Card". The member shall observe and follow all regulations governing the use of Library / Sports Facilities. PolyU reserves the right to revise the above arrangement, whenever it deems necessary and appropriate. 3) Catering Services on PolyU campus3.1 "Millennium Training Restaurant"of PolyU's School of Hotel and Tourism Management Members of overseas associations are eligible to dine at "The Millennium Training Restaurant"wchich is located at FG801, 8/F, PolyU Campus (acces via the lift at Core G) during academic semester period. [The restaurant will be relocated to the new Teaching Hotel premises at the end of 2010.] This western restaurant operates regularly, and provides frequent opportunities for guests to experience and enjoy both lunch-time and evening dinner meal occasions, which are planned and operated by students of PolyU's School of Hotel and Tourism Management. It can cater for a maximum of 70 pax. Prior seat reservation is necessary (Tel: 852-2766-6355). Please visit the website for the opening hours, set menu and the food & beverage calendar: Millennium Training Restaurant 4) Free wireless internet access4.1 Introduction Through collaboration initiatives with local wireless services providers, including PCCW and Y5Zone, free wireless internet access has been extended to off campus. PolyU overseas alumni, as well as PolyU staff and students, can enjoy this free internet connectivity at thousands of hotspots at public places around Hong Kong at popular shopping malls, restaurants, fast food chains, coffee shops, convenience stores, MTR stations, telephone kiosks, etc, on a temporary basis (not more than 4 weeks) while they are staying in Hong Kong. Click here for the list of Y5ZONE hotspots. 4.2 Application Procedures The member should complete and return the “Application Form For Temporary Use of PolyU Free Wireless Internet Services” (see link below) to PolyU’s Alumni Affairs & Development Office [email: alumni@polyu.edu.hk or fax: (852): 2954-0315] via their overseas association. After the membership status is verified, the member will receive one set of guideline and “user name and password”. The internet account will only be assigned to valid members of PolyU’s overseas associations while he/she is staying in Hong Kong for a period of not more than 4 weeks. The member may refer to www.polyu.edu.hk/wireless for steps to connect to the wireless network. They shall observe and follow all regulations governing the use of free wireless internet service.
